Chaos

First there was a huge wind! Doors were slamming, trees were falling, the house was moaning, and all the lights went out! In the morning, the neighborhood looked different.

I've known chaos. I'm hoping for the blessings of growth!

I went to my storage unit two floors down and discovered rats had moved in! Chaos ensued!
Filth and ruin everywhere!

Another purging....what could go and what must stay....
What stayed was put into plastic rat proof containers or
was taken upstairs to my apartment. But then what?

Coud I throw away the receipt from the Hong Kong Hotel 1962?
I definitely wasn't going to throw my dear friend Maddi's picture!
But what about tickets to Joan Baez at Carnegie Hall 1959? And the Dick Clark Show?
Gone!

By the end of the second day of cleaning up, this is what my desk looked like.

Time to get rid of scrap books, clothes, old collections of coins, rocks, and foreign dolls. Time to send letters back to the people who wrote them forty years ago! Time to lighten the load once again!

However,  finding this old sweater. that was made from wool sheared, spun, dyed, and knitted by the wearer, was a reward! I'm glad I had saved it!  It's back on my closet shelf!

And order has been made from the chaos.
May we all have peace on the inside this holiday season.
Amen.

  1. You saved baby shoes? You can have them bronzed and use as bookends!
But now I am remembering. I do feel the person in worn shoes, more than any other piece of clothing. Helping mom empty Dad's closet after he died was particularly hard when we came to the shoes. He was there in every scuff. I could see the bend of his foot in the soft leather. And you can't pass them on like a good suit for others to wear. Shoes are loyal to one person. They know where you have been.
