Reflections: Dec. 25-31st 2013

Auggie first grade
Jude fourth grade

I find it fascinating to look not only the tops but also at the bottoms of shoes, especially when they are well worn. These samples show so much about the characters who own them!  Mine do too...and yours!

Ashland, OR has been very cold and dry this winter! I was down
for Christmas week and was reminded  of how different the climate is!

Gretchen, Harey and Bleu enjoyed opening Christmas presents
on the 28th after the nasty flu had released its hold on Gretchen.
Tom received a hat with a wig.
It not only changed his looks, but
having hair did something to his personality as well!
It was fun and funny!
Jim received a headband with hair...
He looks better bald, I think.

Once I returned to Portland, Auggie, Jude and I celebrated New Year's Eve together.
We experimented with fire. We made banana splits, and then, in the morning, after our healthy shakes which the boys did not love, we had the leftovers of whipped cream and fruit on our oatmeal. It was a great way to welcome in the new year!
Nylon string melts and fire rises as it burns.
"Ouch! I don't think I'll do that anymore!"

"Ouch Granny! This hurts!" smiled Jude as
he dipped his fingers into the melted candle wax
once, twice, three times....ten times!
The teacher in me loves to see
Auggie and Jude experimenting with just about
everything they can find.
"Really Granny? Do I have to drink ALL of it?"
I drink a kale, carrot, apple, ginger shake every morning.
Auggie and Jude didn't like this one, but it was required if they wanted the second course of oatmeal plus!

Oatmeal with raspberries and ice cream and whipping cream?
"Yes!"
"No, I don't have hot chocolate, but I do have marshmallows."
So the boys made marshmallow spider webs.

Finally! They are tall enough and strong enough and cooperative enough
to clean up their messes!

  1. How very fortunate those boys are to have you such a part of their daily lives (but for the shakes.)
Sort of like the Hemlocks, but with adult supervision.

  3. A cafe down here makes one of my favorite drinks (similar to yours) but with orange juice and lemonade in addition to the carrot and ginger. They call it a "safari cooler". I imagine if I added the kale it would be much healthier. Barbara B.
