Spring Break: What's a Granny to Do!

Little Free Library
It’s spring break and Tuesdays are my day with the boys. I don’t need to have a plan for Jude and Gus; we just let the good times roll. Today I had a vague thought about making some furniture for the fairies; that would take wood, pruners, and the glue gun. But what did the boys know about wooden furniture? We probably needed to hop on the MAX and ride into downtown where we could look at some handmade wooden furniture at The Real Mother Goose! http://www.therealmothergoose.com/ a gallery with absolutely lovely artwork made by local artists. But before going to the MAX, what should we pass but “The Little Free Library”! We had to grab a book for the trip!

Once downtown, we had a little talk about appropriate behavior in a gallery and I also mentioned that I was looking for a very special wedding gift. They were all over the wedding idea, but soon Jude had to go to the bathroom, so we exited.

Nordstrom’s seemed like a good idea for a bathroom. Soaps to smell clean décor, and probably lots of mirrors and towels. As we headed towards the bathroom, we found some great dresses for Barb to wear to the wedding! And then the shoes! Wow! The shoes this year are fantastic! Each of us picked out our favorites and then we headed to earrings and make up. Too bad Barb wasn’t with us. We would have loved to see her in what we picked out!

Next we had a relaxed lunch and then boarded the trolley to go down to the tram. We love riding the tram up to The Oregon Health Science Center on top of the west hills. Many of the employees ride their bikes from all over Portland to the tram and then they ride the tram up to OHSU. We were amazed to see there is a bike valet at the base of the tram!

After checking out the hospital and using the restroom, we headed back down and caught the trolley  to downtown. Trolleys and the MAX are great places to practice climbing skills, so there was a fair amount of that as we headed home.

But wait! As we walked from the trolley to the MAX what should we see but a yogurt place! “Granny! Let’s try this!” exclaimed Gus. He has a nose for sweet spots, so in we went. Yogurt was just the beginning! On top went gummy bears, peanut butter cups, marshmallows, and God only knows what else. Delicious!

What a day! I was relieved and happy to deliver both boys to Peter and Hope at the day’s end, and also happy to give hugs goodbye, return to my car and put on MY music and return to MY apartment. Ahhhhhh, the life of a grandparent is the best!

  1. What a treat for everyone! The LFL (get it...?) is the best idea. Something to read on the MAX. What a spot to land...Portlandia. Fascinations around every corner. But...no strawberry ice cream w/ pepper? Still my fav...

  2. What a delicious rendering of your day with the boys. I can feel how it was... and is when you are with them. So easy to get why you are there! Bet you slept well! Thanks for this!

  3. thanks for the great ideas, guys.
Jude, those shoes look uncomfortable but I love the glitter.
I will check out Nordstroms, too.
Wish I could play with you.

  4. What fun! I love reading about your adventures with the boys because the pictures always look like they're something right out of Bobo and Danny.

Excellent selection of clothes for Barby! I'm particularly fond of the shoes...

  5. They ARE Bobo and Danny! Oh my gosh, I've created trouble without even realizing it! I'm going to Jude's classroom on Thursday to tell an Easter Bobo and Danny story. Hummm. I think those boys are going to have their Easter eggs hatch into baby chicks during the night and the Easter Bunny will not know what to make of it! It will totally throw off the Easter Bunny's routine!....not sure how, but it will come to me. Thanks for reading my blog, Sylvia!
