March 9th Health Update

There’s a calm today
As I enter the infusion room
Machines ping and woof
Families chat quietly
Nurses tend to their serious business
In a kind, gentle manner.
I know the routine:
Set up my nest with pillow, warmed blanket, food and toys.
The nurse will be by shortly with her multitude of syringes and bags
But first she’ll check for doctor’s instructions
And that must wait for the lab results of today’s draw.
I pull up David Brooks on my iPod
Speaking about The Mind.
“…endlessly complicated….100 million neurons
There are many tributaries into the unconscious river.
Who we choose to be with has tremendous power over our brains.
Reason is weak. Emotions are wise.
If you change your behavior, it will change your brain.”
My doctor interrupts with a smile,
“Here is a copy of your labs, Ruth.
Keep doing what you’re doing.
It’s working.”
And then she points out my numbers:
Liver function, kidney function, salts, calcium, serum panel
Too much information from her and from David Brooks!
The infusion begins; I put on my dark glasses, and relax
In 67 years my body has pumped 59,311,080 gallons of
Delicious, nutritious, oxygenated blood through my 50,000 miles of vessels
Today it is infused with foreign monoclonal antibodies
That know what to do and they are winning the war.
My hemoglobin is low, brain oxygen is low
My white cells are weak today,
So I settle in with David Servan-Schreiber’s book:
Anti Cancer A New Way of Life
This is a “must read”!
He writes well and knows his subject intimately.
“All of us have cancer cells in our bodies,” he explains,
“but not all of us will develop cancer.”

Be well, my friends. Do what you can do to be healthy.
Thanks for all your notes and love and positive vibes!
I feel your circle of hearts!
