Paradigm Shift
Sparkler veins
hiss and pop
at IgM road blocks,
the strongholds
in viscous quintuplet clusters.
The Velcade brigade advances,
igniting the chaos
Of a Van Gogh starry night.
Breathe deep, Ruth
breathe deep.
My brain
in synapse frenzy
frizzles in its cranium cave
wanting to explode
into a thousand crystals
of shared glass thoughts.
Breathe deep
breathe deep.
The unpaved road
Feels rutted, boulder strewn
and steep.
The balance
and equilibrium of the journey
wobble
on a fractured walking stick.
“It’s Rituxan flare.”
The doctor suggests,
“and normal is four thousand points away.”
My racing heart hammers:
Breathe deep
Breathe deep
Lub dub
Lub dub
The pack order is shifting
They’re running beside me now
Checking, and noticing…
the green eyes fading,
A slight limp in my gate.
Breath deep
Into the core
It’s a war.
It's a war.
