Creating My Halloween Costume

I need something for my head, but the notebook is done!

When I need a solution to a problem, I try to find someone under twenty-five to help me. Most of the time Auggie and Jude have the answers I need, and so I asked them for help a few days ago when I was trying to decide what to be for Halloween.
Auggie had a fast response, “Granny, since you are a writer and you’re going to be writing a novel in November, you should be a notebook!” I loved the idea! I mean who would ever think of being a notebook for Halloween! (As for the novel in November…he was referring to my taking the National Write a Novel of 50,000 words in the Month of November challenge. That’s a story for a month from now.)
Auggie and I decided to get together after school today, and I was all ready when the time came. I had two pieces of cardboard, some paint supplies, green duck tape, scissors, and some foam letters and numbers that have sticky backs and can be used to spell words on posters. We were set. We looked at a few of my journals and decided we wanted a colorful, bright cover with the word “Notebook” on it.

Auggie is in kindergarten and is just learning to read and write words. He had fun spelling out “notebook” and sticking it on the front. He was very careful about his letter placement!

I decided I wanted it  to be Auggie’s Notebook, not just any old notebook, so then he added his name to the cover. Finally we put the binding on and added some straps and I’m set

Because it will be dark and raining on Halloween night, we decided to add a string of lights to the notebook, so here is the final product. Notebook will be heading out with an alien and Freddy Krueger tomorrow night.

Happy Halloween...I'll be sure not to frighten you, but my companions may! I'll add their pictures later!

  1. Great idea! That is, asking for help from your grandkids - but, the notebook too. I'm excited about the novel!

  2. Great documentation of the project. Love the notebook cover with lights! You always have been the queen of dress up! And now, for the writing.
